Bronchitis is a respiratory condition that is characterized by inflammation of the bronchial airways.

Caution: Left untreated, bronchitis can result in the development of pneumonia, a potentially fatal health condition. If you develop symptoms of chronic bronchitis, seek immediate medical attention.

There are two types of bronchitis—acute and chronic. Acute bronchitis is characterized by deep, dry, or wet cough that tends to resolve within one to two weeks. Acute bronchitis usually results from a cold, flu, or, in some cases, sinusitis, although it can also develop due to exposure to bacterial or viral infection.

Chronic bronchitis typically occurs without exposure to infectious agents, and can often develop as a progression of acute bronchitis. It can linger for months and/or recur on a regular basis. In addition to coughing, chronic bronchitis can also be accompanied by wheezing and/or sensations of breathlessness.

Both acute and chronic bronchitis symptoms include deep, dry, or wet cough and inflammation of the bronchial airways. Other symptoms can include chills, fever, excessive production of mucus, and the frequent need to expectorate phlegm and sputum. Both forms of bronchitis can also result in diminished immune function, leading to greater susceptibility to other conditions, including infections and pneumonia.

There are natural cures for bronchitis that do not involve the use of pharmaceutical drugs. They involve restoring the biochemical balance of the body, and making dietary and lifestyle changes designed to improve one's general health.
