Natural Cures for Peptic Ulcer
Peptic ulcer is a condition characterized by chronic inflammation of the stomach and/or the intestines. It can also be referred to as gastritis or gastroenteritis, and is one of the most common types of gastrointestinal disorders.
Over 93 percent of all peptic ulcers are bacterial in nature, meaning that they are caused and exacerbated by bacterial infection, especially Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), which accounts for nearly all cases of peptic ulcer.
To a far lesser extent, peptic ulcers can also be iatrogenic, meaning they are caused by various properly prescribed medications, especially aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), as well as steroids.
The primary symptom of peptic ulcer is a burning sensation in the upper abdomen that is most pronounced on an empty stomach or about an hour after eating, and which can also flare up during the night. Other symptoms include nausea and vomiting, as well as fluctuations in appetite, and feelings of acute hunger and pain soon after eating or while sitting down.
In addition to bacterial and viral infections, peptic ulcer can also be caused by poor diet, food allergies, nutritional deficiencies, alcohol, smoking, and chronic stress. As mentioned above, various commonly used medications can also cause problems, especially asprin. In addition to aspirin, other NSAIDs linked to peptic ulcers include Advil, Clinoril, Feldene, Ibuprofen, Nalfon, Nuprin, Orudis, Oruvail, Relafen, and Tolectin. In severe cases of ulcer, internal bleeding can occur due to thinning of the lining of the stomach and/or intestines.
There are natural cures for Peptic Ulcer that do not involve the use of pharmaceutical drugs. They involve restoring the biochemical balance of the body, and making dietary and lifestyle changes designed to improve one's general health.
