Colds and Flu

Both the common cold and the flu are among the most prevalent health complaints. Each year, approximately half of all Americans experience at least one cold, and 40 percent develop the flu, also known as influenza. Both health conditions exhibit the same symptoms, with the primary difference being that flu symptoms are usually more severe, last longer, and can be potentially fatal. While conventional, drug-based medicine places emphasis on suppressing cold and flu symptoms with both prescription and over-the-counter medications, practitioners of natural medicine seek to address and correct the underlying reasons people become susceptible to colds and flu, especially focusing on stimulating the immune system. These natural cure approaches also have the additional advantage of being free of harmful side effects, unlike medicinal drugs, including many popular over-the-counter medications that contain the common ingredient phenylpropanolamine (PPA), which has resulted in a number of fatal strokes...

My child and I are both sick with the flu, does anyone know if I can do these remedies for my 1yr. Old baby. And should I take all the supplements if I’m still nursing?

I am fairly new to the alternative med path. I have a toddler with the flu. Still getting used to the idea of letting my child have the fever. Are there suggestions on what I can do for comfort and if the fever gets too high or is up there for a long period of time what I can do for her. Plus best ways to comfort her and heal her as quickly and safely as possible she is to be a flower girl in a wedding in a few days. prayers help too:);)
    thanks from a worried mommy!

for sinus infections, which I seem to be prone to, I drink a glass of water with some apple cider vinegar in it as much as I can. Also, I take a lemon and squeeze the juice in a glass of water for extra C. Eucalytus oil helps when used as a steam inhalation or in the bath or shower. I cut out all sugar, dairy, bread, and excess caffeine as well and mainly, get extra sleep. Using a neti pot, which I sometimes fail to do, really helps prevent and treat sinus infections also as does saline nasal spray.

I find this site very, very usful. I find it hard to believe most around me do not want to become aware of Natural Cures for their ailments. I thank you very much for the content. I believe they will come around, hopefully before it’s too late and chemical won’t affect their thinking long term.
